That’s one of the reasons I never cared about which character I pulled. Yeah, I’d get bummed out if I got a standard since I’m an F2P (only lost 1 50/50 ever) but it still never really affected me. I just happen to pull characters i find pretty and they all happen to be really good (Yelan, Kazuha, Citlali and Xilonen)
Don't get me wrong, power is obviously a thing. But I feel like it isn't AS cripling as a lot of people make it out to be. Taking the tedious amount of time it takes to get a character to their best and adapting your strategies goes a long way. I remeber watching a guy 36 star abbyss using 4 stars with the lowest pick rates. He didn't even have R5 five star weapons or anything, im pretty it was f2p friendly.
Genshins idea of making harder bosses being hp stacking is very questionable though.

Akhasha terminal is flawed because it just assumes you have the best teams for your characters.
Like 80% of the players don't even know the difference of personal dps and team dps in the game lmao

I still keep Biedou on my team and always pair with a Pyro User for the elemental combos. I basically use Biedou to take damage then dish it back

I made my lynette into a lunar charged/swirl dps with ineffa. She's doing better in this abyss than my meta characters
