Fontaine's prophecy was tricked by Furina and Neuvillette turned Fontainians into real people. Natlan was saved by Capitano checkmating Ronova with a paradox of the heavenly principle's rules.
Haven't you considered that Nicole being an angel is exactly WHY a love story between her and Varka would be an interesting and heartfelt story? Star crossed lovers are a common type of storyline. Love that conquers even fate itself is another adjacent type. We could also get more background into why and how the heavenly principles enacted punishments on the seelies for not loving all humans equally if they made a story like this. Varka has changed fate before. Nicole seems so fascinated in how chivalrous and selfless he is as a human. He doesn't "love all equally across the board" but he does deeply care for many in unique ways and is very thoughtful to others. It's almost like you can be a fair and loving person without having to stringently make sure it's perfectly equal for everyone. Sometimes equality isn't just, but equity is. She can love humanity more like Varka does without the heavenly principle's stringent view of what that looks like.
