Kinesisha’s design is very square. Genuinely, the only round thing on his entire outfit is his vision. Of course, that plays into his pixel art style abilities, but it could also very plausibly be related to his cultural inspirations. Kinichi’s name comes from the Mayan god Kinichao, which is presumed to translate to sunedy lord. That certainly would explain the orange and yellow tones in his eyes. A how has an alternate spelling. So combine that with the designation for divine or highest lord and we get the name of his dragon companion. Before the names of the Mayan gods were identified by archaeologists, they were given alphabet letters as code names and Kenishiao just so happened to be god G. As for the squares, they could be a nod to Mayan mosaics. Or maybe they’re inspired by their textile patterns, which then coincided with the theme of pixel

Hoyo is very good at representing cultures when you think if it like this, if you think of it just but skin colour you miss out, and I myself think it sucked we don't have a lot of melanin characters 💔

I feel like there's a lot of thought and effort poured into Kinich's design and then you look over at some other Natlan characters and wonder what happened with them. There's so much to talk about with his design that you don't get with the average genshin character, it's funny seeing people dogpile on Kinich's design being bad when it's the opposite.
